CABLING AND BRACING

Tree cabling and bracing is the installation of flexible steel strand cables and braces in tree’s to reduce stress damage from high winds, the weight of heavy foliage, and to support weak tree structures. As Certified Arborists, our goal is to help strengthen weak branches or limbs so that they are better able to withstand severe weather and to improve their longevity as well as reduce potential risk.

Weak structures are not always obvious; contact our local professional Arborist’s to assess your trees. A Certified Arborist can help you identify weak points and examine bark or large co-dominant stems, which can be signals of weakness that could benefit from cabling and bracing.

The materials and workmanship involved in the cabling system are guaranteed to be free of substantial defects. The Extra High Strength (EHS) cable shall comply with ASTM A475, Standard Specification for Zinc-Coated Steel Wire Strand. The fasteners shall be manufactured of stainless steel to resist corrosion. The design and installation of the system is guaranteed to comply with the ANSI A300 (Part 3) -2006 Standard Practices for Supplemental Support Systems and the 2007 edition of the ISA Best Management Practices for Tree Support. The tree and the support system should be inspected every year.” For most trees, inspection need not be so frequent. (Every three or five years may be more appropriate).

Maintenance following tree cable and brace installation is minimal but necessary. Hardware should be inspected periodically by a professional Arborist.

Due to natural inconsistencies cabling and bracing is not 100% guaranteed to prevent failure.
